about

John R. Campbell: guitar, bass, keyboard, vinyl samples
David Floratos: tenor and soprano saxophones, flute, effects
Kevin Van Walk: drums, percussion

Blind Lions formed at Hovering Horse studio over several months as we three musicians, each from a different generation but all deeply influenced by jazz and experimental musics, immersed ourselves in extended live improvisations. Our work was to convey our musical psyches to the edges of expression, well beyond genre boundaries. After many such sessions, it was time to record an album together.

Our name refers to our interest in spirituality and is drawn from a quote by Leon Bloy: "When those who love God try to talk about Him, their words are blind lions looking for a spring in the desert." The music also reflects our interests in landscape, classical composed musics, tribal musics, blues, noise, film music, collage, and poetry. All pieces are original group compositions.
