lyrics

holy something backtalk
a thousand rises a million bends
the road that of course never ends
sunrises arranged like roses in a vase
shadows lines and beads of sweat on my face
you've got tensions pulling
i've got tensions pushing me to these extremes

in the streams larval forms develop and change
so strange to us so small unknown
until they are grown and suddenly appear to our eyes
as what--as fully realized forms
pulling pushing amid cold cultural currents
among several species among realized bodies
among humans too emerged from the dust
to sing to curse to betray to trust

and what momentum what rhythms
what awkward rhythmic walking results
a kind of pageant where death is smiling
happy to be noticed at last
where death is distinguished and on display
no more false premises no more false promises
no more polite admonitions
only the actual now only the experience itself
only the deep cathartic chaotic wanderings
of real human beings into the beautiful abyss
of their innermost lives

ah their innermost lives their outermost desires
we want to become one another
we want to become the entire world
we are nature and nature requires us
even as we trample it back into the dust
from which we ourselves emerged
