lyrics

The ground is wet,
is too forgiving. Mud
accomplishes nothing.
A school of fish is more
substantial, a penny
is less ephemeral. I knock
on the door of an abandoned
house and at least form
a rhythm that stays.
It stays the silence,
articulates absence. It
makes a small tattoo.
Memory imprints the earth
like footprints in mud:
deep, with liquid edges.
